Weddings & Baptisms

Christian Marriage

Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between two persons in the presence of God. In the Episcopal Church it is required that one, at least, of the parties must be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State and the canons of this Church (BCP 422).

We are happy to provide marriage counseling and a venue for the Celebration and Blessing of Marriage. All marriage ceremonies in the church or on the grounds are at the discretion of the Rector. Marriages in the church must be officiated by Episcopal clergy and conform to the Book of Common Prayer. Contact the Rector (rector@oldtrinity.net) to inquire about scheduling and pricing your wedding at Old Trinity Church.

Holy Baptism

As Episcopalians, we believe that the Sacrament of Holy Baptism is full initiation into Christ’s Body, the Church. The bond which God establishes in baptism is indissoluble. Each candidate for baptism should be sponsored by one or more baptized persons. In our tradition, Baptism is administered to adults and to children (BCP 298).

Sponsors of adults and older children present their candidates and thereby signify their endorsement of the candidates and their intention to support them by prayer and example in their Christian life. Sponsors of infants, commonly called godparents, present their candidates, make promises in their own names, and also take vows on behalf of their candidates. It is fitting that parents be included among the godparents of their own children (BCP 298).

Prior to receiving baptism at Old Trinity we offer instruction on the meaning of baptism, the responsibility of membership in Christ’s Church, and the duties of sponsors and godparents on how to help the new Christian grow in the knowledge of the love of God. If you would like to schedule a time to have your child and/or yourself baptized please contact the Rector (rector@oldtrinity.net) or call the church office (410-228-2940).
